DAY 16

Milwaukee, Wisconsin
April 28, 2009
Tue 11:23 PM

CAPITALS WIN!!!!! Way to go Caps, my hockey team. And a big thank you to Mother Russia, which gave the capitals such amazing players as alexander ovechkin (greatest player in hockey today) along with alexander semin and sergei fedorov- the two goal scorers for the Capitals in this important game seven against the new york rangers. i just hope they're ready for the next series, having to play seven games must be tiring.

and yes, i am a hockey fan. today i was even wearing my sweater, but its the old black caps one and i need to get a new red one. not many people know this about me, but living in dc for two years provided the perfect opportunity to become attached to the washington capitals. wisconsin has every other major sport taken. i just realized i've blogged on this subject before... i'll leave it at that and move onto more pressing matters.

"oh my freaking ears!" those words spoken by ralph wiggum have never seemed so true to me except right now, although in my case its "oh my freaking ear!" my left ear has been plugged for the past five days and its driving me absolutely insane! i hate not being able to hear on my left side. i've never had this problem before, i can unplug my ears with ease, but i think earwax must be jammed in there or something. a friend recommened lighting a candle next to it or something, but i looked it up online and apparently that's not a good idea. it says that a health professional can syringe it with water or something, i guess its like using a mini super soaker in your ear canal. whatever works. apparently i can do this myself too, but the site recommended having a general practioner do it if you've never done it before, or if you've had an ear drum rupture in the past. check both those options for me. my ears are really small and were prone to problems when i was younger, so i'd rather not jeopardize what hearing i have at the moment. and i'd like to get this taken care of before i board a plane in a few weeks and my ears really get pissed at me. hopefully at the school clinic tomorrow they don't think i'm crazy. i really hate going to see a doctor/nurse for something this insignificant... my motto has always been if i'm not bleeding profusely or in blinding pain a doctor's visit is a waste of time (and money). the fun thing about going to the school clinic is they always try to tie everything to an STD. Everything. Oh, you have a cough, maybe its syphillis. A headache?.. we better test for chlamydia. Your arm is broken?.. you must have the clap with a side of herpes. Fortunately for me, this isn't really an issue, although last time i went there they wanted to give me a pregnancy test, and i was just going in to see about my skin problems. Seriously. I was like, look at me, do you think i'm getting any? Although, i guess STD related hearing problems are possible, if you've seen that SNL skit with Christopher Walken, Ana Gasteyer, Will Ferrell, and Rachel Dratch... all i'm gonna say is shin shi shin shi.

all that aside, as if my hearing problems weren't bad enough today my car was acting all crazy. really crazy. it was struggling accelerating from 25 to 30... and i don't know anything about cars, but i do know how my titleist should drive, and that wasn't normal. i put some oil in (it was low, i checked- that much i know how to do) of course my hood doesn't stay up on its own so i had to balance it on my head while pouring in the 10W30. i let it sit awhile, and my mechanic recommmended i drive it around the block to see how it drove. and *fingers crossed* it drove fine. so i'm hoping perhaps my car's ear was just plugged but it was able to solve it on its own, or something like that. i can't afford to send me to the doctor and my car, one or the other.

and i had a dream last night that i was being quarantined for having the swine flu... apparently the hype around this disease has become so strong it's invaded my subconscience. perhaps last week in my dreams i visited tijuana or something and that's where i contracted it.

oh yeah, and last night, i played cricket and totally owned. that's what happens when the pubtender gives you the short, heavy darts. thank you! seeing as how my friend Console was there, we finished up out best two out of three series. she won last time, so i had to win to stay in the game. and i played great. before we started the third game i handed her a dart and kept one and said "closest to the bullseye gets to throw first." two seconds later i throw, and wouldn't you know it, i hit the bull. I can never hit the bull when i want to, and BAM, I just had to declare it out loud and it was so. i threw first and got a big lead, closed all my numbers and was left with the bulls. No prob, i got this. after a few rounds of missing, i decided to try invoking the magic words again. I said "closest to the bullseye gets to throw first," and BAM, bullseye again! Apparently saying this out loud preps my brain and syncs it with my throwing hand. Console couldn't believe it, it was crazy the first time, but the second time... it was just nuts. I still had to hit the bullseye once more to win, but i decided the magic words should be used sparingly. so i kept playing, no bull, no bull, etc. So i said it again. and wouldn't you believe it! No bull. Ok, so it doesn't work all the time, but, at this point it still has over a 60% success rate, not too shabby. two out of three ain't bad, and i knew not to push my luck. A few throws later i decided, hell, one more try won't hurt. "Closest to the bull gets to throw first..." throw... BULL! 75% rate of success. Booya! Have I mentioned I love darts.

In my enthusiasm I left without closing out my tab. Oops. but that's why they hold onto your credit card. i went back today and picked it up, all i bought was a 1664 and a sprecher root beer. good times.

and i found out i get to work all weekend. but no complaints here, i need the money and like i've said, i like my job and where i work.

tomorrow is president obama's 100th day in office... and apparently when his first report card is sent home. or his warranty is now up, something like that. i can't tell what's being hyped more, the swine flu or obama's 100 days. and, if the caps winning and obama's 100th day celebration isn't enough excitement in washington, arlen spector switched teams. that's gonna be ackward next time he goes into the senate cafateria. now if only minnesota can get their act together. although, as my cousin said- this is the so-called "state of hockey" and they let their hockey team move to texas. the gop must be just steaming in their cowboy boots. and the fuhrer of the gop-rush limbaugh- apparently said that he should take john mccain with him. oh, that fat impotent druggie is so funny. as bill maher said, i love how the republicans look to the future and found radio.

for once right now i am not watching/listening to a movie. instead i'm listening to my walkman. as of right now its an interesting mix of mostly van halen, a little dash of aerosmith, mix in some seether, A.R. Rahman, Offspring, and a pinch of The Eagles. quite a combination. i still have hundreds of songs i need to add, but between school and work i just have no time. i need to get my ear fixed so i can hear this better. it really has much supperior sound quality to my old ipod. sony makes the best hardware. and speaking of electronics, i picked out all the fun stuff i want to get if i get a real job. sweet samsung led hdtv (and you thought plasma and lcd was the best it got), sony receiver, insignia 5.1 speaker set (can't go premium on everything, but insignia makes fine products), and rocketfish wireless speaker hookup. i've already got the blu-ray player (thank you ps3) and an extensive blu-ray/dvd and video game collection. oh yeah, i can see it all in my head. the ultimate home theater system in my bedroom. other girls blow their money on clothes. other young adults blow their money on beer and alcohol. give me the consumer electronics. i am truly my father's daughter, he taught me well.

that's all i can think of for now... oh, and elvis costello. he's on my walkman too. more specifically, elvis costello and the attractions. pump it up. has a great beat, great song. on that note...
