DAY 28

Milwaukee, Wisconsin
May 10, 2009
Sun 11:43 PM

back in milwaukee... arghh, finals this week. four finals spread over three days... not too bad. well, we'll see. this weekend was a good diversion though, avenue q and today, Star Trek!

It was awesome, really good. Not the greatest Star Trek movie, but definitely in my top five, maybe even top four, its hard to say. There were a few things i didn't like, a romance was created between Uhura and Spock that was random and unnecessary. but every American movie has to have a love story somewhere, so there it was. It wasn't explained, and Spock isn't exactly the most romantic character in film, so it just seemed forced. Also, it marginalized the role of Uhura... she didn't seem to be the valuable member of the crew like she is in the original movies and show... it seemed like she was just there for the romantic role, which is too bad as basically the only woman in the movie. but, other than that, it was really good, i had my doubts- it was said to be a star trek movie for non-star trek fans, but i think both can enjoy it, which should be the ultimate goal. success! and i just read that the original movies come out on blu-ray this week, and soon shall be on my shelf next to Slumdog Millionaire and Terminator (I alphabetize my movies... yes, i'm rather anal about a lot of things).

a good weekend back in appleton, although, i know already what i will miss most about milwaukee this summer... the variety of radio stations. in appleton it's 105.7 wapl, or nothing. and wapl plays a lot of rush, my only complaint. twice today i heard it, and only twice was i listening to the station. i hate rush, an overated band in my opinion. i just don't dig their sound. but, they're not as bad as nickelback (nobody can be that bad). i have a theory about that, canadians just can't rock. the british definitely can, americans can, aussies can... sorry canadians. i can't think of any canadian bands except nickelback and i absolutely loathe them. canadians can play hockey, they can smoke marijuana with no repercussions, and they can make good maple syrup (ok, i'm just guessing on that last one, but i figure the maple leaf is on their flag for a reason right?). but they can't rock. leave that to the rest of us english speaking nations.

now i should really get some sleep, finals tomorrow!
