DAY 35

Milwaukee, Wisconsin
May 18, 2009
Mon 12:21 AM

today was my graduation day... woo-hoo. but, i had to work, so i didn't go. a happy coincidence, as i wasn't planning on going anyway. there ceremony was at 1:30, and i'm sure i would've been thrilled to hear the chancellor speak, and wait for over two hours with a bunch of people i don't know to hear my name said once. whoop-dee doo basil. i'm not a ceremony person, never was, never will be. for me, the experience of four years in earning a degree cannot be summed up or celebrated in the u.s. cellular arena in a boring ceremony i don't care about. just can't. so why bother? is my diploma or my degree any less valuable because i skipped the ceremony? I don't think so. I even tell my family, that if i ever get married, i'm just going to vegas... quick, easy, inexpensive, and much more fun. Tons more fun. I hate large parties, and I wouldn't want to plan for something like that... picking out arrangements, invitations... not to mention the dressing up... all that jazz... so not me, i just wouldn't care. I'm not saying any of this is a bad thing, but it's not for me. Have somebody dressed as elvis perform the ceremony and have it done in 10 minutes then go play craps... i'm down with that. and graduation... i went to school here for two years, it's not that i don't like the school or anything, it's just that i don't have really any attachement to it. same goes for my old school... although, i would've gone to that ceremony because the graduation takes place either on the mall or on the ellipse by the white house. and i'm glad that i have parents who are cool enough to respect my decision... they just want to ensure that i don't regret it. nope, won't. originally i was planning on going to a brewer game or something to celebrate, but that didn't work out cause the brewers don't play at all this week. thanks mlb. so, instead i'm going to six flags with my sister... that's my graduation ceremony. riding batman and raging bull... helluva lot more exciting then a boring ceremony where i have to wear a gown and a goofy hat. what's with those hats anyway? did somebody unroll their diploma and put it on their head? not to mention, california for almost two weeks... if that's not a celebration, then i don't know what is. happy graduation to me.

today i did go and get toppers pizza for me and my sister, a new one just opend up across the street from work. i've only heard good things... it was good, but not amazing or anything. but i got a good deal on a large three-topping... sausage, mushrooms and green peppers- that's my kind of pizza. their breadstix were good too.

then watched survivor with the sis... i don't watch the show, she does, but it's interesting sometimes. then she watched something on cults... doesn't interest me at all, but she's fascinated by them. not in a bad way, not fascinated in a 'i want to join way' but she finds a lot of stuff that creeps me out interesting. on the show they had a "cult expert" she said she could do that, with all the shows she watches on the subject. i said with all the shows she watches (that fill up the dvr) she could also be a serial killer and nazi expert. cult, serial killer, and nazi expert... i call it the trifecta of death, i mean really, what more can you add to that? i said i'd rather be the fluffy kitten and lollipop expert, you know, happy things. not my sister, she's into all that crazy stuff, again i mean into as in learing about it, not into as she wants to join the nazi party and become a serial killer. no, that's not it. but trifecta of death, or death triumvirate... like the roman policy with caesar, pompey, and that other guy what was his name... oh, right crassus. i remember that question used to always come up on tests in history class, and i always got triumvirate confused with trifecta and i'd get it wrong... i guess that's what happens when your parents take you to the dog track when you're younger.

and speaking of animal racing, how bout the preakness yesterday? unfortunately i was unable to watch it, but that filly rachel alexandra won. the jockey was the same who rode on mine that bird in the derby. so stupid that the filly's old owners didn't run her in the derby, she could've had a shot at the triple crown. now, it looks like maybe the jockey could win a unique triple crown. hopefully i'll be able to watch the belmont.
